Life threw me a curveball or two, but that pause gave me the space to reflect on something important &#8211; why collaboration matters in the balloon industry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lately, I\u2019ve been thinking about how the world \u2014 and our balloon industry \u2014 has changed. Some of it for the better, but a lot of it for the worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">The Problem with Today\u2019s Culture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ten years ago, you could share an opinion and move on. Perhaps you\u2019d get a raised eyebrow or even a strongly worded letter from Tunbridge Wells, but that was it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now? One offhand comment can spark a <strong>social media storm<\/strong>, twisted out of context before you\u2019ve even finished typing.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"584\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/angry-social.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6379\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover;width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/angry-social.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/angry-social-300x128.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/angry-social-130x56.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The biggest problem is context \u2014 it has left the conversation. You can say something as innocent as <em>\u201cI love balloons because they bring joy\u201d<\/em>, and before long someone will twist it into a debate about environmental damage and pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">What This Means for the Balloon &amp; Party Industry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This kind of behaviour isn\u2019t just online \u2014 it exists in our own trade too. I\u2019ve seen it time and again in the <strong>balloon and party industry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of asking, <em>\u201cWhat strengthens us all?\u201d<\/em>, too many people ask, <em>\u201cWhat\u2019s in it for me?\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manufacturers, wholesalers, even decorators \u2014 some have mastered the art of smiling on the outside while protecting only their own patch behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"584\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gossip.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6381\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gossip.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gossip-300x128.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gointernational.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gossip-130x56.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>One example: this week I asked a well-known wholesaler (who benefits hugely from Takara Tec products I supply) to help promote the <strong>Takara Tec brand<\/strong>. Not GO, not me \u2014 the <em>brand itself<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer? A flat <em>no<\/em>. Why? Because I\u2019m seen as competition. Yet, this same wholesaler is happy to stand up publicly and present themselves as a champion of the industry. The hypocrisy is staggering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">Why Division Damages Us All<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The link is clear. Whether it\u2019s mobs online, clashes in politics, or behaviour within our own trade \u2014 the root cause is the same:<br><strong>Short-sighted, self-serving thinking.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve lived this first-hand. I once took seven years away from my company to protect a trade association on the brink of collapse. I gave it everything. I turned it around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The result? Ostracism, spin, and attempts to damage my company\u2019s reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in the end, it made both me and my business stronger. It taught me that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Division doesn\u2019t build businesses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collaboration, courage, and honesty do.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">What Really Matters in the Balloon Industry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So here is where I stand. Speaking the truth matters to me, even if it ruffles feathers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remaining true to values like <strong>professionalism, legitimacy, quality, growth, and support<\/strong> is non-negotiable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And at the heart of it all, the focus should be on what truly matters \u2014 because in the end, we don\u2019t just sell balloons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 We sell <strong>trust, memories, and moments of joy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That deserves more than mob thinking and short-term wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\">The Choice We All Face<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The choice is simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We all face a choice: do we keep tearing each other down?<br>Or instead, do we start building something we can all be proud of?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I know which side I\u2019m on. But progress will only come when we stop playing small, protect less, and share more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we can do more than sell balloons.
