This week’s blog is arriving a little later than usual. Life threw me a curveball or two, but that pause gave me the space to reflect on something important – why collaboration matters in the balloon industry!
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how the world — and our balloon industry — has changed. Some of it for the better, but a lot of it for the worse.
The Problem with Today’s Culture
Ten years ago, you could share an opinion and move on. Perhaps you’d get a raised eyebrow or even a strongly worded letter from Tunbridge Wells, but that was it.
Now? One offhand comment can spark a social media storm, twisted out of context before you’ve even finished typing.

The biggest problem is context — it has left the conversation. You can say something as innocent as “I love balloons because they bring joy”, and before long someone will twist it into a debate about environmental damage and pollution.
What This Means for the Balloon & Party Industry
This kind of behaviour isn’t just online — it exists in our own trade too. I’ve seen it time and again in the balloon and party industry.
Instead of asking, “What strengthens us all?”, too many people ask, “What’s in it for me?”.
Manufacturers, wholesalers, even decorators — some have mastered the art of smiling on the outside while protecting only their own patch behind the scenes.

One example: this week I asked a well-known wholesaler (who benefits hugely from Takara Tec products I supply) to help promote the Takara Tec brand. Not GO, not me — the brand itself.
The answer? A flat no. Why? Because I’m seen as competition. Yet, this same wholesaler is happy to stand up publicly and present themselves as a champion of the industry. The hypocrisy is staggering.
Why Division Damages Us All
The link is clear. Whether it’s mobs online, clashes in politics, or behaviour within our own trade — the root cause is the same:
Short-sighted, self-serving thinking.
I’ve lived this first-hand. I once took seven years away from my company to protect a trade association on the brink of collapse. I gave it everything. I turned it around.
The result? Ostracism, spin, and attempts to damage my company’s reputation.
But in the end, it made both me and my business stronger. It taught me that:
- Division doesn’t build businesses.
- Collaboration, courage, and honesty do.
What Really Matters in the Balloon Industry
So here is where I stand. Speaking the truth matters to me, even if it ruffles feathers.
Remaining true to values like professionalism, legitimacy, quality, growth, and support is non-negotiable.
And at the heart of it all, the focus should be on what truly matters — because in the end, we don’t just sell balloons.
👉 We sell trust, memories, and moments of joy.
That deserves more than mob thinking and short-term wins.
The Choice We All Face
The choice is simple:
We all face a choice: do we keep tearing each other down?
Or instead, do we start building something we can all be proud of?
I know which side I’m on. And I’ll continue to fight for collaboration, courage, and honesty in this industry.
Until next time — wishing you health, happiness, and success in all you do.
Final Thoughts
The balloon and party industry is full of opportunity. But progress will only come when we stop playing small, protect less, and share more.
Together, we can do more than sell balloons. Our industry has the power to become stronger, more united, and more sustainable for the future.
